Exit the Cave

Sergeant Michael "Psycho" Sykes of the Delta Force's Raptor Team was sent into a mine shaft that appeared to be more cave-like than anything else. He had left Team Eagle, led by Dane, back at the entrance to fend off any more of those alien-like things that had just attacked them at the entrance to the mine/cave. The last thing anyone needed was a huge mechanical thing blazing the path behind them.

JSOC instructed Psycho to enter the area and he was instructed to do so alone, for now.

His ammo allotment was still in pretty good shape after he was able to reload in an area obviously left behind by Korean People's Army (KPA) troops, but he was out of missiles for his rocket launcher. Of course, launching rockets is not something one should do in a cave - but this is Psycho, so I don't believe anyone would put it past him.

By this time, JSOC had contacted me (Nomad) regarding my experiences on the island. Namely, the first time I came into contact with these alien things. If you wish to re-read that chapter, simply launch the following URL:

Nor JSOC, nor Psycho, nor I (Nomad), nor really anyone else had a clue how long ago these things moved onto the island. From the Nomad experience, the guess is that it had been ten or hundreds of years, if not thousands of years - given the design of their habitat within the mountain. I wonder if these things were responsible for those crop circles in England, or the pyramids in Gaza? (grin)

Up above Psycho's path through the cave, he noticed heavy traffic in the sky - compliments of a natural air shaft ventilating the cave. That heavy traffic was from more of those machines. Clearly, he had not seen the last of them yet. For now, they would have to wait. The mission was to follow this cave in hopes to connect with Colonel Lee and that mysterious crate containing what appears to be another one of those alien things.

Psycho continued to navigate the path of the cave. His head-mounted camera captured this unique object on the surface of the cave. I (Nomad) recalled seeing quite a few of these futuristic plants on my way inside the iron mountain which was later demonstrated to be the aliens' habitat.

The cave led to the mine Psycho thought he was entering after the face off near Pacific Shores. Down below, KPA troops guarded the area.

The cave certainly had one good thing going for it. There were no immediate hostiles, which gave Psycho the ability to fully charge his Nanosuit, heal his aching body and gather his thoughts on this somewhat peaceful walk.

"Time to become the Psycho one again", Psycho likely thought to himself as he began the process of navigating the Pacific Shores Mine.

FAQs

Q. Do you work for Crytek?
A. No, I just had a blast playing Far Cry and could not wait to play Crysis.

Q. So, why the Blog?
A. With Far Cry, I found myself talking about the game so much that I wish I would have written about my experience instead of reciting my experiences from memory. When I played the demo for Crysis, I had to write about the adventure after purchasing the full game, so this blog was born.

Q. What is with all the stories not tied to the actual game play?
A. I wanted to write the blog as if I were Nomad. Nomad would certainly have experiences and opinions to draw upon. So, I decided I would provide additional insight into my view of his character while writing about the game.

Q. Why is the Crysis Level Update page element showing levels completed that do not have blog entries?
A. This will happen as levels are finished and blog entries still need to be created and written. The Crysis Level Update will also show where I am in the actual game vs the blog entries I have written.

Q. Do I have a military background?
A. No. I have several friends who have military backgrounds, but everything you are reading in this blog is purely fictional. All covert missions mentioned only exist inside my head.

Q. Why is there a gap between the entries?
A. Well, I am in my 40's and I have a job that demands quite a bit of my time during the day. Plus, I have a family at home, so I don't play or blog until late in the evenings. My goal is to publish at least two pages (four blog entries) per week until the Single Player Campaign is completed.

Q. Would you blog the second and third games?
A. If people are still reading this blog at the time, I think I would have to keep the blogs rolling, right?

Q. What difficulty level are you using?
A. I am only playing on Normal level. I am really not that great at playing First-Person Shooter games ... so I am far from someone who plays on the hardest levels.

Q. Do you play online in any multi-player games?
A. I do not currently play online. This is for two main reasons. First, as noted above, I am really not all that good. Second, I am worried that going online might cause me to lose control of how much I spend gaming. Remember, I play mostly at night, so the longer I play, the less sleep I end up getting. So, that would be a bad thing for others at the office where I work. (Why is jvmach67 so grouchy these days?!!!)
